There are many causes of water pollution. The main one is certainly industrial waste. Many industrial sites produce waste in the form of toxic chemicals which may get into nearby freshwater systems. When industrial waste is not treated properly, it can easily pollute the freshwater systems that it comes into contact with. Industrial waste from agricultural sites, mines, factories and plants can make its way into rivers, streams and other bodies of water that lead to the sea. The toxic chemicals in the waste produced by these industries can make water unsafe for people. They can also cause the temperature in freshwater systems to change, making them dangerous for many water animals and plants.
